ROUTE DESCRIPTION
The 66 mile route travels through rural Macon and Jackson County
communities. The route rolls through eastern Macon County dropping off the hill
at Willette into the Highland community and the Cordell Hull Lake. Bikers then
course along the Cumberland River and the old Avery Trace Trail. The route
crosses the Cumberland River twice. There is a four mile section of rougher
pavement as the route travels along and above the river, but the scenery is
exceptional.
The riders pass near the town of Gainesboro then make their way back toward
Lafayette. Along the way the route travels through the Jennings Creek valley,
back up onto the plateau at Willette and along the Union Camp Road (so named
because of a Civil War encampment) to Lafayette. There are two hills and several
rollers along this route. However, the total elevation gain is only 2,100 feet.
Maps and cue sheets will be available at registration. All turns will be well
marked and will have “MMF” below the arrows. THIS TOUR WILL FOLLOW GREEN
ARROWS.
